Kia Ranked No. 1 by J.D. Power Initial Quality Study
For the second consecutive year, Kia is ranked Number 1 across all industry brands in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). In 2016, Kia jumped from Number 2 to the top spot on the list. Receiving the highest rating for yet another year indicates that Kia is not resting on its laurels, but working harder than ever to stay on top. But what exactly does this rating mean?
The 2017 J.D. Power IQS analyzed the occurrence of problems experienced by new-vehicle owners during the first 90 days of ownership. A lower score indicates fewer problems, and a higher rating indicates more issues.
Kia was ranked highest among all brands with a score of 72 problems per 100 vehicles, outperforming the industry average by 25. Kia has truly proven their long-term commitment to quality in 2017, beating their own previous score by 11 points.
J.D. Power also recognized five Kia models with individual awards, including the Cadenza*. Named the “Highest Ranked Large Car in Initial Quality,” the 2017 Cadenza leads all models across the industry with a score of 51.
In determining initial quality, J.D. Power looked at eight problem categories: exterior, driving experience, features/ controls/ display, audio/ communication/ entertainment/ navigation, seats, HVAC, interior, and engine/ transmission.
This study is regarded as an excellent indicator of long-term vehicle value. So, if you’re looking for award-winning quality and value that lasts, Kia can’t be beat.
