Kia Earns Number One Spot in Initial Quality Study by J.D. Power
For the first time in 27 years, a non-luxury brand has earned the top spot in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study, and that brand is Kia.
“Ranking number one in the entire industry for initial quality is the result of Kia’s decade-long focus on craftsmanship and continuous improvement, and reflects the voice of our customers, which is the ultimate affirmation,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, Kia Motors America, in a statement. “As the highest ranked brand in the industry, there is no doubt Kia is a world-class automaker.”
For the Initial Quality Study, J.D. Power asks new car owners to track any issues they have with their new car or truck over the first 90 days of ownership. Owners keep track of problems arising with the engine, transmission, driving experience, and other quality-related areas. Kia owners had fewer problems than any other brand. This year’s study included 33 luxury and non-premium brands.
Leading Kia’s success were the Sportage and Soul, which earned top marks in their respective segments. In addition, the Rio, Forte, and Sorento all placed in the top three of their classes.
