2017 Kia Niro
About the All New 2017 Kia Niro
If one thing is for certain about the future of the automotive industry, it’s that fuel efficient vehicles are becoming even more prevalent with each passing year. That trend has prompted a South Korean automakerto design its first dedicated hybrid model. While many hybrid vehicles take the form of a small hatchback car, Kia is going in another direction.
The 2017 Kia Niro will debut in the form of a crossover which offers more space and capability than the standard hybrid hatchback. Debuting last February at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, the Niro isn’t just a first for Kia. The hybrid crossover is also the first model in its segment.
Under the hood is a four-cylinder engine that pumps out 103 hp and a 32 kW electric motor that puts out an additional 43 hp, bringing the total to 146 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, the electric motor can also power the Kia Niro on its own under specific circumstances.
A lithium-ion battery pack can be found under the rear seat powers the electric motor and refuels by regenerative braking. All in all, Kia is aiming for 50 mpg combined. The EPA has yet to test the 2017 Kia Niro.
We at Crown Kia of Longview can’t wait for the arrival of the much-anticipated 2017 Kia Niro!
